It was a long-time dream to open up a cafe in our beloved hometown of rural Viroqua, Wisconsin (population 4500). And this finally became a reality when baker extraordinaire, Allison Sandbeck teamed up with Kickapoo Coffee owners, Caleb Nicholes and TJ Semanchin to make it happen.Located on Main Street, the cafe is a 1940's Mobil gas station turned specialty coffee shop. The transformation was a true labor of love, and we drew upon many local talents to create a modern, bright space that is at the same time warm and welcoming. Featured throughout the space is the beautiful, custom woodwork of Brendan Karlstad, his father, John and his brother, Eamon. The resulting vibe is fresh, clean space meets handcrafted – from the coffee bar’s wooden hex tile to the menu boards – no detail was left unturned. And in 2018, the cafe received first place in the Speciality Coffee Association's Design Lab in the "spaces" category. When you visit, you’ll discover a teeming bakery case and breakfast and lunch menu inspired entirely by the area’s local and organic bounty. For more than a decade, we have been sourcing and roasting the highest quality, organic coffees and selling them to cafes, co-ops and grocery stores throughout the Upper Midwest and beyond. In opening this café, we’re honored to deepen the connection between the coffee growing communities with which we partner and our own and to showcase the hard work of farmers, near and far.
